Just after claiming the most downloaded application on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store in the US in the January 2020 , the video streaming app TikTok has surpassed one billion installs on the Google Play Store.

TikTok is a Chinese video-sharing social networking service owned by ByteDance, a Beijing-based company founded in 2012 by Zhang Yiming. It is used to create short dance, lip-sync, comedy, and talent videos.The app was launched in 2017 for iOS and Android in markets outside of China. In the three years since its launch, it’s safe to say that it has exploded in popularity.
Due to TikTok’s rise in popularity, YouTube is reportedly working on its own version of a short-format video platform to compete with TikTok, and is slated to launch by the end of 2020. Reportedly called ‘Shorts,’ it is said that it would be an added feature and would be accessible though the mobile app.
